Ingredients:
3/4 cup shortening 1 cup brown sugar 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt
Preparation:
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix well.
Shape into balls. Roll in sugar.
Bake for 8 minutes at 350 degrees.
Note: Instead of rolling in sugar before baking, bake the cookies plain and ice with a light brown glaze.
Recipe as follows: Light Brown Glaze:1/4 cup butter 2 cups powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1-2 tablespoons milk
Heat margarine over low to medium heat until delicate brown.
Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla.
Stir in milk until smooth and right consistency.
