O ...Only apologize for the way your home looks if a tornado or fire has come through your home 30 minutes prior to guests arriving.

My Mother had a sign over our kitchen sink which read: “My house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy.”
You’ll only make your guests uncomfortable if you keep pointing out your faults, such as apologizing for the size of your home or dining room, apologizing because your guests are eating off snack trays in the living room, etc.
Your guests are at your home to visit with you, not gossip about you. Of course, you don’t keep your home looking like a pig sty either.
I can remember many times that my Mother, seeing unexpected guests coming up the walk, would have us girls straighten up the house and hide the stacks of clutter behind the shower curtains!
