Martha’s Apple Pie Recipe
|
Back
Ingredients: 6-8 tart apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (6 cups) 3/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar 2 tablespoons flour dash ground nutmeg pastry for 2 crust pie 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Preparation: If apples lack tartness, sprinkle with about 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Combine sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and dash salt; mix with apples. Line pie plate with pastry. Fill with apple mixture; dot with butter. Adjust top crust, cutting slits for escape of steam; seal. Sprinkle with sugar and spray top with butter Pam. Bake at 400 degrees for 50 minutes or until done.
Note: This pie freezes well. Sometimes if I have lots of apples, I’ll make several pies and freeze one or two so they’ll be ready when I need one. Just place a paper plate upside down on top of pie. Wrap well with foil and freeze. Take from freezer and bake at 425 degrees for 1 hour.
